The Carrion Eaters were originally meek, worm-like scavengers that lived in the Warrens, living short and pathetic lives as they fed upon the tiny bits of waste dripping into the sludge-filled tunnels they called home. That all changed when the Swinefolk started occupying the Warrens; their less-than-refined eating habits brought much more generous amounts of scraps for the Carrion Eaters to eat and thrive off. As they grew in size, numbers, and aggression, the Swinefolk started to feel a sort of kinship with these scavengers…

Now the Carrion Eaters crawl happily within the filth and grime of the plague-soaked corridors, spreading sickness and disease on whatever they can sink their grotesque fangs into. The Swine have even domesticated them to some degree, creating a partnership where both species get a share of the prey. Those who are marked are at especially severe risk of becoming these foul crawlers' next meal, but not even the remains of their Swine masters are exempt from their hunger; a decision that has had interesting consequences...

Though it was first thought that Carrion Eaters were only native to the squalid corridors of the Warrens, the rediscovery of the Courtyard has proved otherwise. As they are scavengers by nature, drawn to the smell of death and decay, the Courtyard's heavy odor of blood and rotting bodies attracted these wretched scavengers like flies to manure. As for how these writhing scavengers manage get past the enchanted Gates of the Courtyard, they simply came crawling out of the Courtyard’s sewage holes and cesspits. Since the underground aqueducts and tunnels of the Warrens run underneath the entirety of the Estate, some- if not all- of these sewer entrances are connected to these festering tunnels in one way or another. With the dark and dank swamps of the Moor and the Courtyard almost eerily similar to the festering pits of filth and disease known as the Warrens, these pests were able to quickly adapt to their new home. With Bloodsuckers added to the menu, it may only be a matter of time before these carriers of filth and disease become infected by the Thirst...

Behavior[]

The Carrion Eater is a Beast type enemy that appears in the Warrens, commonly accompanying the Swinefolk that now inhabit the place and devouring scraps left from their messy eating habits. Sometimes, a larger, mutated version of these creatures can be found as well.

On their own, they aren't particularly threatening, with their only attack being fairly weak and inaccurate (although it has a high chance of inflicting a small Blight effect if it hits). However, their power increases significantly if they have an ally who can Mark your heroes.

With the Crimson Court DLC installed, Carrion Eaters will also appear the Courtyard. However, unlike the Bloodsuckers found there, they are incapable of transmitting the Crimson Curse.
