Strategy[]

BARRISTAN

🔸The Man-at-Arms is essentially a tank who takes punishment to protect his more fragile teammates thanks to his easy access to Taunt and Block. Man-at-Arms can be effective at dealing damage as well. His entire skillset is highly flexible, allowing him to adapt to any Rank or Party. Because of his toughness and ability to protect his allies, the Man-at-Arms can become the backbone of any team composition.

🔸SKILLS OVERVIEW

  • Crush is a front-line melee attack with respectable damage and good reach being able to hit Rank 3. Is essential in any Front-line Man-at-Arms build, thanks to the offensive and supportive versatility. ( Heal 10%-20% when Target )
  • Rampart is a rank-flexible melee/shield attack with decent damage. It has the main advantage of moving Forward 1 (Move to a more favorable position) while at the same time pushing enemies Backwards 1 (displacing enemies to disfavorable positions). It also applies Daze/Stun, a very good counter against any type of enemy.
  • Defender is an excellent Support move that gives the Man-at-Arms Block and gives Guard to allies. It's most useful for giving a low-HP Ally a safety net to maintain the team's survival, since almost all attacks will be redirected to the Man-at-Arms. It can be used in all ranks and doesn't have a cooldown, making this skill very safe and reliable to use in any situation.
  • Bolster is another excellent Support move that Stress heals both Allies and the Man-at-Arms while also removing Weak and Vulnerable. It can be used in all ranks and has low cooldown, making this skill very safe and reliable in any build or situation.
  • Hold the Line is a Melee/Shield attack that moves the Man-at-Arms Forward 3; it is advised to equip this skill when using Rank 1 Man-at-Arms, as it will put you in your favorable position instantly while also giving Immobilize and Block (Less disruption and less damage received).
  • Bellow puts the enemy team at a direct disadvantage with a heavy Speed Debuff, as well as Riposte and Crit Removal. As a cleave attack, it also has the advantage of removing several Dodge tokens at the same time. This skill is perfect to counter certain matchups and enemy factions (Example: Creature Den, Exemplar).
  • Retribution is an excellent tank skill that gives Taunt, Riposte, and Block at the same time; the benefits include making enemies target the Man-at-Arms, reducing incoming damage, and dealing damage to enemies all at the same time. Very efficient tempo gain in most if not all encounters.
  • Command is a good support skill that removes Blind and gives Strength. Is a good counter to certain matchups (such as Fisherfolk and Fanatics). It's also good at mitigating or outright nullifying certain Quirks/Diseases and the downsides of certain skills (such as Leper's constant self-inflicted Blind tokens).
  • Stand Fast gives the Man-at-Arms even more self-sustain, complimenting his already excellent Tank capabilities, by adding constant Block tokens every turn. It's highly recommended to use if you get constant Taunt generation (such as via trinkets or Bulwark).
  • Courageous Abandon is the skill with the highest Single-target Damage potential of Man-at-Arms. Requires constant Block generation (Deals +100% DMG when Block). Consider combining it with Stand Fast or Vestal Consecration of Fortitude to get the highest damage faster.
  • Strategic Withdrawal is a respectable damage and support skill that applies Combo. Consider combining it with heroes that require constant Combo. (Example:Leper). Moves Back 1 and Heals 33% HP + Adds and Death's Door . Is a good combo tool and safety skill that can give Man-at-Arms good survivability in disfavorable situations.

Trivia[]

  • The Man-at-Arms is one of the eleven Heroes returning from Darkest Dungeon, and one of the first nine Heroes to be available in the sequel.[1]
  • The predetermined name of the Man-at-Arms is Barristan, possibly a reference to a character from the book series A Song of Ice and Fire (uncited).
