As the corruption spread across the Estate, its malefic influence turned many mostly harmless creatures into monstrous beasts. The Spiders being an excellent example of this. Once upon a time, these arachnids were a small, ordinary species native to these lands that solely preyed upon other small insects and arachnids. However, as the corruption took hold, it caused them grow to immense size and enhanced their innate abilities and strength, which has allowed them to prey on larger game, including humans. Unlike most other spiders which are solitary hunters, these ones are highly social and often hunt in groups.

Spitters are widely considered to be the males of their species, due to their bright colors and spiked abdomens. Unlike the females, which are capable of producing webbing, the males are able to spit blobs of caustic venom from their mandibles with deadly accuracy. Their main strategy for hunting prey is to have the females ensnare prey in a mass of webbing before launching a barrage of venom to further cripple the target by blinding and blighting them. Once the target has been sufficiently hobbled, the close in and deliver the killing blow via their venomous bite.

They are found in every region of the Estate, except for the Cove, which may be due to the fact that they are unable to swim or that the high concentration of salt may be harmful to them. Furthermore, using their natural ability to scale any surface, they have even managed to bypass the cursed gate of the Courtyard and take up residence in the blood-soaked mire.

Behavior[]

Oversized pests strengthened by the corruption, Spitters are giant spiders that now prey on larger game, including humans. Their main strategy for hunting prey is to have the Webbers ensnare prey in a mass of webbing while launching a barrage of venom to further cripple the target by blinding and blighting them. Once prey has been been sufficiently weakened, they move in and deliver the death blow via a venomous bite.

They are usually encountered in pairs in the back ranks with a pair of Webbers in front of them. While they possess very low health and resistances, they are very quick and evasive and their attacks are capable inflicting Blight. While their attacks already do a fair amount of damage on their own, they become even more deadly when a target has been marked by a Webber; allowing them to hit the unfortunate victim twice as hard. Furthermore, their eponymous Spit attack is also capable of inflicting a debuff that reduces accuracy, making them even harder to hit.

Despite the raw damage and havoc they are capable of inflicting it is best to squish the Webbers as soon as possible to prevent them from marking, in order to reduce the amount of overall damage the Spitters can do.
