Some believe that these monstrous bugs were once ordinary mosquitoes which fed upon the cursed blood of others. Others say they were the original carriers of the Crimson Curse. Whatever its true source, most know only that there is a connection between mosquitoes and the blood sickness, and that its victims are eventually transformed into half-human, half-mosquito vampires.

Those afflicted with the Curse slowly change: their noses elongate, their skin becomes deathly pale, and their eyes become large, black and unblinking. Gradually, their teeth are replaced by fangs and their minds are consumed by delusions and madness, still believing they are human. Hidden under a thin layer of fake sophistication and nobility, however, they are mad beasts with an insatiable thirst for blood.

And if you think that these pests were annoying, wait until they get the chance to fill their bellies with the blood of your heroes, then they will go from annoying to deadly in the blink of an eye.

Behavior[]

The Sycophant is a Bloodsucker type enemy that can be found in any area, usually with Supplicants. They are not very tough or damaging, but are very fast and evasive, and can inflict your party with large amounts of Stress and the Crimson Curse.

Sycophants, like many other Bloodsuckers, have two forms, typically referred to as "Thirsty" and "Bloodlust." A Sycophant will always begin in Thirsty form, but if it lands The Thirst on a target, it will change to Bloodlust.

In Thirsty form, Sycophants can use Maddening Whine, prioritizing already-stressed targets (3x higher chance), and The Thirst to change to Bloodlust form and heal itself. If a Sycophant's health falls below 40%, it will almost certainly use The Thirst to heal.

Sycophants in Bloodlust form are much more dangerous, with higher stress damage from The Thirst, and access to new moves: a bleed skill called Bombing Run, and Deafening Whine, a more powerful form of Maddening Whine with a low chance to stun.

Strategy[]

The Sycophant's extremely high speed means that it often acts first, potentially infecting heroes with the Crimson Curse and giving some stress. However, they are otherwise weak, with little health and very low resistances except for blight. Because of this, it is recommended to keep them stunned or, if you can guarantee it, simply killed, while focusing on more dangerous foes.

If a Sycophant manages to land The Thirst, their new Bombing Run and Deafening Whine abilities are more dangerous and are not to be underestimated. While still not as important as other Bloodsucker enemies, they should be at least stunned (especially with their minimal resistances) to prevent bleeds and stuns at inopportune moments.
