The Woodsman is a Gaunt enemy found in Darkest Dungeon II encountered in all regions except The Mountain.
Description[]
The hulking Woodsman can be found throughout an expedition, typically in road battles and at the Chirurgeon's Table. Stronger than his Gaunt companions, he serves as a tank for the team. His attacks all deal significant direct damage, with Fell the Tree having one of the highest base damages of any enemy skill in the game. A CRIT from this skill can be exceptionally dangerous. Fortunately, this highly damaging attack has no additional effects, other than an extremely low chance of inflicting disease. His other attack, Carve the Toy, does significantly less damage, but also causes
stress and a moderate
bleed. His
Guard skill, while lacking in defensive tokens, is still very strong thanks to Woodsman's high HP
and moderate
Deathblow Resist.
Even if his past life is lost, he still maintains the strength and endurance after all these years, striking heavy blows against the heroes. Whether through a protective instinct or some small shred of humanity for his fellow Gaunts, the Woodsman dutifully interposes himself between his allies and the heroes, and often must be the first one eliminated in a given battle if the heroes do not have access to heavy backline damage.
